In North America, it is common for a man to propose marriage to the woman he would like to spend his life with. As a token of his love, he often presents her with an engagement ring, which usually sports a diamond or other precious stone. But what is true for the Western world is not true for the whole world, and traditions from other countries are beginning to make headway here.
While Western men of the past have been solely the givers of engagement rings, men and women in other parts of the world have worn engagement rings. However, in areas where dual engagement rings are more prevalent, the rings tend to be of a simpler design, often a simple band of metal such as titanium. In some instances, the band that the couple wears becomes their wedding bands, simply changing meaning once they have been married. In other instances, an additional ring is worn after the marriage.
While no one would dare suggest taking away the diamond rings from today's Western women, it is perhaps fitting that their men are now beginning to see some equality in the form of a ring to symbolize their betrothal to the woman of their dreams.
Many women, even in the past, had presented their husbands-to-be with a wrist or pocket watch. But with the decline in the popularity of these items, rings are becoming a more popular choice.
Titanium is a wonderful option for a man's version of an engagement ring. Not only is it slightly more affordable than a gold or silver ring, it comes in a variety of colors, allowing a woman to pick out a design that will truly reflect her future husband's personality.
Titanium rings also have the added benefit of being incredibly light. Men who are unaccustomed to wearing rings will find a titanium ring as light as a feather, and it will be a good way to "learn" to wear rings before donning the wedding band.
Titanium is also incredibly durable, so even if the man in question makes a living with his hands, he won't have to hide or protect his ring. Everyday collisions and impacts that might dent or damage a gold ring will simply bounce off of a titanium one.
In these modern times, an engagement and subsequent marriage is all about equality and partnership. So why shouldn't that equality reach all aspects of the marriage? Ladies, your future husbands deserve engagement rings just as much as you do.
